Built in 1914, the former Athens Asylum Dairy Barn is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The residents worked on the farm at the dairy barn to produce much of their own food. The grounds had a natural park-like beauty with acres of trees and ponds. It now features a 6500 square-foot art gallery and classrooms. ","This map is provided and updated by the staff of Cycle Path Bicycle Shop. The image for the logo chosen to represent West Athens is the Historic B&O Train Station. It is directly across the street from Cycle Path. The Cycle Path building is a former hotel used by passengers of the former B&O line.

The B&O rail line extended from Washington DC to St. Louis. Passenger service existed up until the early 1980's. Also close to the Athens Station was the South terminus for The Hocking Canal, Beasley Mills, The Athens Lumber Company, the birthplace of The McBee Binder Company, and the original Hocking River Bed.
